Objective: To present a clinical case of conjunctival keratoacanthoma and its therapeutic management.
Case report: A 51-year-old male patient presented with a whitish, vascularized, mobile and rapidly growing conjunctival lesion in the temporal limbus of the left eye. Considering differential diagnosis of neoplastic origin, it was decided to perform surgery (no touch technique) with excisional biopsy, whose anatomopathological result indicated a diagnosis of “conjunctival keratoacanthoma”. Adjuvant treatment with mitomycin C 0.04% twice a day was started and 5 months later no signs of recurrence were found.
Conclusion: Conjunctival keratoacanthoma can be completely resolved, but it requires to establish its diagnosis and resolution, biopsy and anatomopathological study, by means of surgical procedure, and to complement the treatment with mitomycin C and close follow-up, as it has been presented in this case.
