Abstract

Ocular surface squamous neoplasms are the most common ocular tumors, mainly affecting males between 50 and 75 years of age. Risk factors are smoking, trauma or chronic inflammation, exposure to chemicals, vitamin A deficiency, local or systemic immunosuppression, and exposure to ultraviolet B radiation, this being the main risk factor. Human papillomavirus and human immunodeficiency virus are strongly associated with squamous neoplasms, and these tumors are sometimes even the first clinical manifestation of HIV. HIV-positive patients with squamous neoplasms have larger tumors, greater histological aggressiveness, and greater recurrence after treatment. The objective of this work is to present a series of cases of patients with conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma with different risk factors, clinical presentation modalities and their corresponding clinical-therapeutic approach.
