Purpose: This research aims to explore the impact of strabismus on the quality of life of adult patients in Argentina, including both social and functional aspects.
Methods: Conducted as an observational cross-sectional study in the Strabismus Department of the Ophthalmology Service at HIGA Rodolfo Rossi, La Plata, from January to June 2023. Twenty-four adults diagnosed with strabismus participated. The AS-20 questionnaire, assessing psychosocial and functional aspects, was administered alongside the collection of demographic data.
Results: Out of 32 eligible patients, 24 completed the AS-20 survey. The results revealed a significant impact on both social (mean score: 36.4) and functional (mean score: 33.2) components. Gender distribution showed 11 males and 13 females, with 45.8% of the total patients reporting employment challenges linked to strabismus. The scores indicated substantial implications for social interactions and daily activities.
Conclusions: This study highlights the negative impact of strabismus on the quality of life of adult patients in Argentina. The findings emphasize the need for additional research to ensure timely access to specialized care.
