Abstract

Objetive: Demostrate the usefulness of B-mode ultrasound as a diagnostic tool in patient with clinical suspicion of acquired degenerative retinoschisis evaluated at GO Ophthalmology Institute of Rosario City during the period from may 2019 to june 2021.
Method: Retrospective and descriptive study. Demographic data (age, gender, and racial group) were obtained. Using Tomey UD-800 ocular ultrasound with a 10 MHz transducer, vertical, longitudinal and transverse images of each quadrant were analyzed.
Results: 17 patients (9 men [52.9%] and 8 women [47.1%]) were studied. Bilateral presentation was found in 13 cases, of which 12 cases were located in the temporal-inferior quadrant.
Conclusion: Ultrasound makes it possible to identify the separation plane of the retinal layer, which is why it is useful to determine the diagnosis of acquired degenerative retinoschisis.
