Abstract

Case report of a female patient presenting with visual acuity (VA) loss and metamorphopsia in both eyes (BE) due to active choroidal neovascularization (CNV) associated with angioid streaks (AS). The patient was treated with a monthly intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (Avastin®, Roche) for three months in BE. Upon completion of therapy, VA had improved and metamorphopsia had disappeared. Additional medical tests evidenced the resolution of active CNV. During the 3-month post-treatment follow-up there was no recurrence of the condition and, thanks to timely referral to the dermatology service, diagnosis of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PE) was made. Keywords: angioid streaks, choroidal neovascularization, choroidal neovascular membrane, bevacizumab, pseudoxanthoma elasticum.
