Abstract

Objective: Presentation of a patient with combined retinal and pigment epithelium hamartoma.

Case report: A 33-year-old male patient was evaluated at our institution referring low vision in the left eye since childhood. On physical examination, visual acuity in the right eye was 10/10 without correction and in the left eye he counted fingers at a distance of 1 meter. Fundus examination in the left eye showed a pigmented, raised, deep, exudative lesion with intra- and epiretinal gliosis that did not allow to observe the optic papilla. In view of the suspicion of combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium, periodic controls were performed with expectant management.

Conclusion: The unusual presentation of these pictures invites us to an in-depth study of them in order to rule out the presence of malignant tumors.
